Time to fuel up your boat? Many waterbodies have fuel docks “on the water” for boaters to conveniently fill their boat’s fuel tank dockside. On Lake Hopatcong, Bridge Marina’s fuel dock provides this service to boaters and at our Highlands Boating Club & Rentals location, we choose to fill up our fleet boats at Bahrs’ Landing’s fuel dock.
In a recent boater education video from Bridge Marina, Ray Fernandez briefly shares tips and information on how to approach a fuel dock successfully as he docks a Boating Club fleet boat at Bahrs’ Landing in Highlands, New Jersey.
When approaching a fuel dock, it’s important be prepared: understand the current; set your dock lines and fenders beforehand, and more. During the video, Ray also stresses the importance of keeping an eye on the team members at the fuel dock and following their instructions and direction carefully. Perhaps most importantly… don’t come in hot! Approach the fuel dock nice and slow, popping “in” and “out” of gear so you have better control of your boat.
And finally… don’t forget to tip those dock hands at the fuel dock once your boat is gassed up and ready to go!
